Jailed Russian fans to be deported

Three Russians jailed in France following clashes with England fans before their Euro 2016 match in June will be released from prison and deported next month, a lawyer said on Wednesday.
The trio, who filed a request for conditional freedom, will be released on January 9 and expelled January 16, said Alexandre Robelet, the lawyer for Alexei Yerunov, who was initially sentenced to two years behind bars for the Marseille battles on June 11.
His sentence was reduced to 18 months on appeal, while Sergei Gorbachev was jailed for 18 months, cut to 15 months after he too appealed, with Nikolai Morozov receiving the shortest sentence of 12 months.
Even if the three men are released on January 9, they are unlikely to leave prison before they are deported on January 16, according to Robelet.
They were among 43 Russian supporters rounded up in a bus three days after the turmoil surrounding the group stage fixture in Marseille.
Twenty of the Russian fans detained were expelled from France, including Alexander Shprygin, an ultra nationalist activist who heads Russia's national supporters' association.
Thirty-five people were injured in the trouble in Marseille, most of them English fans, including two men who were left in a coma.
One British man in his fifties suffered severe injuries when he was beaten on the head with an iron bar.
Six English fans were given shorter jail sentences for the violence.

Goalkeeper Ariyo gets 12-match ban

Sunshine Stars goalkeeper David Ariyo has been handed a 12-match suspension for "breaching the NPFL Framework and Rules."
Ariyo was charged by the League Management Company (LMC), which oversees the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), for assaulting an assistant referee during his team's 2-1 home loss to Plateau United on 7 June.
He will now miss most of the remainder of the season and will only be available for Sunshine Stars' last two matches against FC Ifeanyiubah and Remo Stars.
The goalkeeper's club also got charged for breaching the league rules for failing to control their players, leading to the assault of one of the assistant referees.
"Sunshine Stars were also charged for breaches of Rule C9 and C1.2.1.6 while goalkeeper, Ariyo was charged for assault on an assistant referee contrary to Rule C11 of the NPFL Framework and Rules," the LMC stated on Tuesday.
The Akure Gunners have been further expelled from their home ground, the Akure Stadium, and will play their home matches at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, more than 200 kilometres from their abode.
The troubled club will play at the stadium in Ijebu-Ode indefinitely, according to the LMC.
Sunshine Stars were also fined a total of N1 million including N250 000 being compensation for the assaulted assistant referee.
In May, Sunshine Stars were sanctioned by the LMC for an infraction during their league game at home against Lobi Stars. The club had their stadium closed to fans indefinitely, got fined N5 million and got hit with a suspended three-point deduction.
Sunshine Stars, fourth from bottom, will now play hosts to Gombe United in a relegation six-pointer at the Dipo Dina Stadium this Sunday.

Ronaldo faces tax fraud lawsuit

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was on Tuesday accused of evading 14.7 million euros in tax through offshore companies, the latest footballer to fall foul of fiscal authorities in Spain.
The 32-year-old -- the world's highest paid athlete according to Forbes magazine -- follows in the steps of FC Barcelona forward and Argentina star Lionel Messi, who was found guilty of the same offense last year although the sums involved were allegedly smaller.
The issue of tax evasion has caused anger in a country only just emerging from a damaging economic crisis that has seen countless people lose their jobs and inequalities rise.
Ronaldo is accused of "four crimes against the public treasury between 2011-14... which involves tax fraud of 14,768,897 euros ($16.5m, £12.9m)", the office said in a statement.
"The accused took advantage of a company structure created in 2010 to hide income generated in Spain from his image rights from tax authorities, which is a 'voluntary' and 'conscious' breach of his fiscal obligations in Spain," it said.
Prosecutors accuse the Portugal international of evading tax via a shell company based in the British Virgin Islands and another in Ireland, known for its low corporate tax rate.
In addition, they say he only declared 11.5 million euros of Spanish-related income from 2011 to 2014, while what he really earned during that time was close to 43 million euros.
And finally, they accuse him of "voluntarily" refusing to include 28.4 million euros in income linked to the sale of his image rights for the 2015 to 2020 period to a Spanish company.
FOOTBALL SCANDALS
The football world in Spain has been rocked by charges of tax evasion or corruption pressed against some of its top stars.
Messi was sentenced to a 21-month jail sentence and 2.09-million-euro fine last year for tax fraud.
The prison term will likely be suspended as is common in Spain for first offenses for non-violent crimes carrying a sentence of less than two years.
The 29-year-old and his father Jorge Horacio Messi were found guilty of using companies in Belize, Britain, Switzerland and Uruguay to avoid paying taxes on 4.16 million euros of Messi's income earned from his image rights from 2007-09.
The income related to Messi's image rights that was hidden includes endorsement deals with Danone, Adidas, Pepsi-Cola, Procter & Gamble and the Kuwait Food Company.
Former Barca defender Javier Mascherano also agreed a one-year suspended sentence with authorities for tax fraud last year.
Meanwhile Brazil star and Barcelona forward Neymar and his parents are due to stand trial for alleged corruption over his transfer from Santos in 2013.
